Search Shiawassee County Civil Dockets

Need a civil case file in Shiawassee County? Start by figuring out which court holds the matter, since that office keeps the docket you need. A Shiawassee County civil docket search works best when you lean on the public case search for a quick lead and then go to the right clerk for the official file. The docket tracks a dispute from its opening papers through motions and hearings to a judgment or other closing event. Not every civil case runs the same course. Court level, case type, and access limits all shape what a public result can show and how you should request the Register of Actions.

Searching Shiawassee County Civil Dockets

MiCOURT Case Search is the statewide entry point for a Shiawassee civil docket. Pick the court if you can. C35 marks the 35th Judicial Circuit Court. D66 marks the 66th District Court. You can search by name or case number. Then narrow results by status, category, and date. Civil is a public category that may include Domestic and Family Matters. Remember, a public result is a lead, not the official court record.

Name searching has its own rules. MiCOURT wants a last name or business name of at least two characters. No wildcards are allowed. A first or middle name is optional. Case Number Search also rejects wildcards. A year you supply must have four digits. A type must have two characters. Match the court code, the case number, and the category together. That is how you trust a hit as the right civil matter.

When the online summary falls short, the 66th District record-request instructions lay out the route. That route leads to an official D66 civil record.

Shiawassee civil docket 66th District Court record request instructions

A request aimed at one court works better when it names what you want. Ask for the complete file, a single document, a transcript, or the ROA. Vague requests slow the clerk down.

  1. Choose C35 or D66 based on the civil court that holds the case.
  2. Search by a precise party or business name, or enter the known case number exactly.
  3. Use the Civil category and the public status and date filters only as needed to narrow results.
  4. Record the court code, case number, case type, status, filed date, and next hearing shown publicly.
  5. Ask the correct clerk for the ROA, complete file, or a named document when official detail is needed.

Note: A public MiCOURT result is only a case lead. The clerk-held ROA or file is the court's authoritative record.

Shiawassee County Civil Docket Split

Shiawassee civil dockets split by court jurisdiction. The 35th Circuit Court takes original civil jurisdiction over matters above $25,000, equitable relief, and listed domestic-relations actions, and its civil files sit with the County Clerk's Circuit Court Division. The 66th District Court handles civil cases up to $25,000, small claims up to $7,000, landlord-tenant matters, land-contract forfeitures, civil infractions, and traffic-related cases. This division sets both your search code and the office holding the records.

D66Civil matters to $25,000, small claims to $7,000, landlord-tenant, and land-contract forfeiture matters66th District Court Clerk’s Office

The District Court’s MiFILE instructions illustrate the local D66 civil-filing route.

The split matters in practice. A D66 civil matter and a C35 civil matter can both surface in MiCOURT, yet their filing channels differ.

Inside a Shiawassee County Civil Docket

A civil result and its ROA organize a case around identity, parties, status, events, and documents. That structure holds the whole case story. The public display can include a civil case year and number, court code, type, category, public status, filed date, next hearing, action type, courtroom, judge, and ROA action text. Roles like plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or attorney may also appear when public. A document image might be open to you. Or the clerk may need to produce it on request.

Case identityCase year and number, C35 or D66, case type, Civil category, and a configured subcategory where shown.
PartiesPublicly displayed plaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent, along with a role when available.
Status and datesFiled date, case status, public status, disposition or closed date, and next hearing when the interface provides them.
EventsHearing date and time, action type, action category, courtroom, judge, comments, and ROA action text.
Document trailComplaint or petition, summons, answer, motion, proof of service, order, judgment, satisfaction, appeal, transcript, or certified-copy path.

Case type codes are court-configured. Copy an unfamiliar code as displayed rather than guessing its meaning. A public status does not open every attachment, exhibit, or domestic-relations record.

Shiawassee County Civil ROA Requests

The D66 civil request route runs by email, not a web form. Send your request to D66civil@shiawassee.net. Include your full name, phone number, email address, mailing address, case number, and party name. Also state a clear choice among a complete file, a specific document, a transcript, and/or the Register of Actions. Those details let the clerk identify the file. They also show the kind of copy you need.

"ROA" means Register of Actions, the case history in chronological order. Do you need the sequence of filings and events rather than every page? It is often the right ask. A transcript is not an ROA. A complete file is not a single order or judgment. The District page posts no fee or turnaround time. So state any deadline and ask the clerk what process applies.

Request clearly: Name the court, case number, party, exact item, and plain or certified-copy need. Do not assume that a docket summary includes the underlying document.

Civil Case Types on the Docket

MiCOURT's Civil category can include domestic and family matters, and its subcategories can separate divorce, domestic, small claims, probate-related, protective, or other configured types. Check jurisdiction first. A city ordinance or city-clerk record is not automatically a D66 or C35 civil docket, though an ordinance action filed in court may be searched through D66 or requested as a D66 ROA.

  • C35 civil cases over $25,000 and equitable-relief matters.
  • C35 listed domestic-relations actions in the Circuit Court system.
  • D66 civil matters up to $25,000.
  • D66 small claims up to $7,000.
  • D66 landlord-tenant and land-contract forfeiture cases.
  • Publicly configured Civil subcategories that may include domestic or family matters.

Search labels only classify a public interface. They cannot override jurisdiction, unlock confidential records, or turn a Family Division matter into a complete public file.

Shiawassee County Civil MiFILE Change

The 66th District Court began civil MiFILE filing locally on November 6, 2025. Attorneys filing D66 civil documents must e-file under MCR 1.109(G)(3)(f). Self-represented litigants may take part. Local rules require separately captioned documents to be filed separately. Exhibits generally attach to the main document, except in landlord-tenant and summary-proceeding matters. Motions and orders stay separate. A current summons accompanies a complaint. Party information calls for name and mailing address only.

MiFILE's statewide home is the account entry point for Michigan's e-filing system.

Think of MiFILE as a filing tool only; it does not replace MiCOURT's public search or a clerk-issued civil record. MiFILE's available-courts list shows which courts have joined, giving the broader context for the D66 rollout.

The launch covers District civil filing only. It does not turn the 35th Circuit Court into an ordinary e-filing county, so circuit civil papers still follow the clerk's usual route.

Civil Docket Settings and Hearings

A Shiawassee civil docket listing can carry a date, time, courtroom, judge, and action type. MiCOURT calendar entries may add an action category, comments, a public flag, and related case details. All of that describes a setting. It is not a completed hearing, and it is not an outcome. Hearings get adjourned, continued, canceled, or moved all the time. The ROA, or a call to the court clerk, tells you what actually happened.

The Circuit Court links a Daily Docket. The District Court links a daily virtual-hearing docket. What each shows can differ by event. A family or confidential calendar may leave names out and still be properly public. For a hearing-date workflow that pairs the public display with clerk confirmation, see the county's Court Dates reference.

Note: confirm the scheduled date against the ROA before treating it as a hearing result.

Shiawassee County Civil Family Boundaries

Family cases in Shiawassee County belong to the Family Division of the 35th Circuit Court. It is not some separate fourth court. That division handles divorce, custody, support, paternity, adoption, juvenile matters, and related family proceedings. MiCOURT's Civil category can include Domestic and Family Matters. But the ordinary public search is not a full Family Division portal. Protected personal information can limit what appears. So can confidential documents and case-type rules. The Shiawassee Family Court information identifies the local Family Division channel.

Shiawassee civil docket Family Court information

Family coordination does not merge every related record into one ordinary public civil-file route. The Friend of the Court office keeps its own records, distinct from the court file.

Shiawassee civil docket Friend of the Court office information

Friend of the Court records sit under MCR 8.218. Do not assume they follow the ordinary Circuit legal-file access route.

Civil Docket Access Rules

MCR 8.119 makes trial-court case records open to inspection and copying. A law, court rule, or court order must say otherwise for access to shrink. Looking at a case history is not itself a copy charge. Still, the rule does not make every document public. Need an official file? The same goes for a certified copy, transcript, or restricted-record decision. The court of record remains the source.

Michigan access rules:

MCR 8.116 and MCR 8.119 generally govern public proceedings and trial-court record inspection, subject to valid restrictions.

MCR 1.109(D)(9)-(10) protects dates of birth, identity numbers, passport numbers, and financial-account numbers through redaction rules.

MCR 8.218 places Friend of the Court material under a separate access rule.

Shiawassee County Civil ROA Terms

A civil docket reads best as a sequence. Isolated labels will not get you far. When an order, judgment, or satisfaction document matters, check the exact wording in the ROA. A default is a possible judgment. It follows a party's failure to answer or appear. Garnishment, by contrast, is a post-judgment collection process in applicable civil cases. A transcript records a proceeding. That is not the same thing as a docket entry.

Complaint or petition
The opening paper that states a civil claim or asks the court for relief.
Proof of service
A filing that records service of a court paper on the required person or party.
Motion and response
A request for court action and the opposing response, if one is filed.
Judgment and satisfaction
A court decision and, where applicable, a document showing that the judgment was satisfied.
ROA
The Register of Actions, or chronological case history that D66 lets a requester identify by name.

A current docket entry can point to a hearing or document. Match any request for the ROA, certified copy, or complete file to the exact need.
